Hello Lovely Readers,
It’s been a while.
I get this question a lot when I tell people I keep the seventh day Sabbath: “Why do you do that?”
Well… I have a lot of Christians in the audience, so I thought today I would share why.
(This image was obtained from Pinterest and is not my own)
I am a whole-Bible believer.
And I believe that when God says something, He means it. (Numbers 23:19, James 1:17)
I do not believe that God changes His mind, and I do not believe that God changes His ways. (James 1:17, Isaiah 40:8, Malachi 3:6)
I believe He has all authority in Heaven, Earth and She’ol, and I believe His Word is eternal. (Psalm 24:1, Psalm 139:8; Psalm 119:160, Deuteronomy 6:24)
In scripture, Yah says that the Sabbath is a sign between He and His people, that they belong to Him, and that He will be their Elohim forever. (Exodus 31:13)
The command to observe a day of rest on the seventh day of the week is in the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20:8-11)
And Yahweh, Himself, rested on the sabbath day of creation, from all His work, as an example to His people to follow. (Genesis 2:2-3, Exodus 20:11)
This Sabbath is not only for the Jews. (Exodus 23:12, Leviticus 19:24, Hebrews 4:9-10)
Yahweh did not create only Jews when He created Adam. Nor were Jews the only people who were birthed from Noah. Further, Jews were not the only people who walked out of Egypt. So therefore, Jews were not the only people who received the commands dedicated for all the people of God to follow at Mt. Sinai.
What we call Jews in the Bible are merely from the lineage of Judah. Not only were the commands given to twelve tribes of Israel, but they were also given to any foreigners who left Egypt with them. Who trusted in the Elohim of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Who saw the wonder of being one of HIS people. And chose to take part in that.
Every Christian today will claim to be of the lineage of Adam, of Noah, of Abraham, not only by genetics, but by their choice to live unto God.
But there aren’t many Christian’s who will willingly follow the Commands of the Lord as He gave them.
What made our forefathers stand out as men of Elohim, other than their obedience? (Genesis 26:5, Hebrews 11:8, Genesis 6:22, 2 Samuel 5:25, 24:19)
Shouldn’t that be what makes us stand out too?
Each of these men had their downfalls, we all know that. But we still give them homage, why? Because they did their best to follow in the ways of the Lord.
That is, after all, what it means to be righteous. (Proverbs 21:3, 1 John 3:4)
Yahweh said His sabbath is eternal. (Exodus 31:16)
He declared it as a required practice for anyone within His gates, and the gates of His people, for the native and the foreigner. (Exodus 23:12, Isaiah 56:4-5)
The final command Yah gave two pages before Matthew chapter one, was to remember the commands of Moses. (Malachi 4:4)
Even Jesus said that if the people do not know the words of Moses, they could not know him. (John 5:46-47)
Yeshua proclaimed in Matthew 5 that he did not come to take away from any command of Elohim. Rather to practice the Father’s ways in full. (Matthew 5:17)
In Revelation, Yeshua said that those who enter into the kingdom are going to be those who are observing the Lord’s commands. (Revelation 22:14)
God says that the seventh day is HIS day of rest. (Isaiah 58:13-14)
And yet…
Few care to acknowledge this day as much more than Jewish or Mosaic tradition.
I will admit that in my personal life, my Sabbath could be more set-apart. It could be more consecrated on my Father. I could have a lot more focus on Him than I give. But regardless, I know that on the seventh day of the week, I am supposed to rest from my work, and respect the day of rest my Elohim has chosen from the beginning of time.
Keeping any of the commands is not about being perfect. (Romans 3:23, Ecclesiastes 7:20)
Look at Noah. Look at Abraham. Look at David. These men were not perfect, that fact is well recorded. (Genesis 9:21, 1 Kings 15:5)
What was also recorded was their determination to do exactly what God commanded them to do, to the best of their abilities. (Genesis 6:22, Genesis 26:5, 1 Kings 15:5)
I claim no perfection in the way I choose to live unto God. But I will say that I am doing my best with what I know He commanded me to do. And that will be enough.
“And you shall love Yahweh your Elohim and guard His charge: even His laws, and His right rulings, and His commands, always.” — Deuteronomy 11:1
“For this is the love for Elohim, that we guard His commands, and His commands are not heavy” — 1 John 5:3
“And this is the love, that we walk according to His commands. This is the command, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it.” — 2 John 1:6
I love my God. So I keep His commands.
It’s just as simple as that.
Thanks for reading friends!
Yah bless!
